How to cope with the rainy season

It’s the season of rains once again and we welcome it whole heartedly, it doesn’t all have to be cold andgloomy indoors just because the rains are here. Over the next couple of pages, we serve you tips to help you cope with furnishing in this period.

1. Flooring: Rugs/ Carpets/ Tiles/ wood laminate floors. Unarguably the most bashed this period what with the wet feet to-ing into the home from the outside, invest in a cleaning machine, mops, cleaning agents etc. As you would clean ever so often this period and or a hard wearing natural fibre entrance(welcome) mat which will absorb the wetness and can be easily aired every now and then.

2. waterproof under your doors and windows to avoid rain water trickling into your house through those openings

3. Use mild heat emitting paints when doing up your walls.
4. Keep your windows and doors shut. First to keep out the cold and secondly, to keep in some warmth
5. Put away the sheers curtain and put up lined Curtains
6. This is the time to change that your old duvet that you have been meaning to, to protect you and your loved ones from catching a cold.
7. Change bed sheets at least every two days in the event that someone has a cold or catarrh to avoid skin irritations as a result of sleeping on dried mucous.
8. Treat wood furniture with wax or wood oil now that the sun is not there in anticipation of the harmattan when they may start cracking up or showing faded areas.

9. Get out the colourful throws to cheer you up time and again. It remains the most inexpensive way to add punch and drama to a room.

10. Get scented candles and balls to aromatize your space.
11. This is the time to make use of that lamp that you have been using as a decorative piece in your home. Switch it on to help create atmosphere in your space. Who says you can’t have fun just because it is raining outside.
12. Rearrange your furniture to create alternative seating or play space for your kids since they are not going to be able to play outside most of the times.
13. Wet Walls? Switch on all your lights to generate heat, scrape down the walls and wait. The walls will need to be properly dried before you can treat them.
14. Use plenty of friendly air fresheners made from natural ingredients like lemon, orange, jasmine etc
15. Use cotton, cotton and cotton this season so as not to spook allergies.
16. Put away duvets made with foam this season as it may aggravate your asthma. Infact for kids we recommend the use of coverlets for ease of washing.
