Nigerian Natural Beauty Tips thumbnail
When it comes to personal care, Nigerian women have traditionally taken advantage of the benefits that natural items provide. Many of the unique advantages provided by natural beauty treatments are effective and irreplaceable, so these natural treatments are still incorporated into modern-day beauty regimens. Citrus fruits, for example, can be used for exfoliation of the facial and body skin. Also, there are a number of fruits or nuts, such as coconut and shea nuts, that have excellent moisturizing properties. Does this Spark an idea?

Fruit

  • An important part of utilizing nature in a beauty regimen is incorporating a variety of fresh fruits into one's diet. The reason why variety is important is because different fruits have different qualities and will produce different results.
For example, kiwi is high in antioxidants and vitamin C, so when taken internally on a regular basis, it will have the effect of wrinkle prevention by stimulating collagen synthesis. Avocado is a fruit high in vitamins A, C, K and B6, as well as potassium and fatty acids. When taken internally, the fatty acids have a positive effect on hair and skin by contributing to moisture and shine. Avocado can also be applied externally, as a hair or face mask.
Some other fruits that can be applied externally are banana, the skin of which can be applied to the face to help with wart removal; lemon, the juice of which can be applied to the face to tone skin and remedy discoloration; and orange, the juice of which can be used as a face wash to help reduce the appearance of larger pores and to soften and tone skin.

Black Soap

  • Black soap is a mild cleanser that is made from a mixture of natural butters, plants, and herbs; there are many different mixtures and brands available. Black soap can be purchased online at sites like Amazon or from sellers on Ebay, or at local cosmetic supply stores and some health food stores. Black soap tones and exfoliates without stripping the skin, and can be used on the face and body.

Coconut Oil

  • Many women opt to use coconut oil in lieu of lotion products that are sold in stores. Coconut oil has moisturizing properties and also reduces the presence of excess oil on the skin. Coconut oil improves skin elasticity and is also a great conditioner for the hair because it causes hair to retain protein and gives hair a natural shine.
